Well, maybe not mean.
But the battle of the bulge has begun in earnest around here.
Inspired by Cityfarmers fabulous weight loss the past few weeks(I'll leave bragging rights to her...hint, hint), I have begun my own battle. A year ago, I was running 3 miles, 4-5x a week. I was by no means skinny, but at 5' and at the time nearly 54, I weighed a respectable 122#.
But the knees began aching, and the running turned into walking, which turned into looking at the treadmill, sitting in the corner gathering dust. And the weight crept up to 138#.
Now, I know some of you are thinking they'd give their right arm to weigh 138#, but remember, I am only 5' and by all rights should weigh around 108.
Cityfarmer Joy was lighting a fire under me, just by talking and encouraging and sharing what she was accomplishing. So, I took the plunge and got back on the treadmill. Cut out a LOT of wine, cut way back on the red meats, and joined Snap Fitness.
And am eating a lot of salads like this one.
YUM
This is Cyn's version of a Greek salad which my sister-in-law Camille brought to a family party this week. Chock full of iceberg lettuce (yes, I know there is pretty much no nutritional value to it, but you can't beat the crunch), romaine, tomatoes, cukes, yellow peppers, red onion, peperoncini, black olives, green olives, and feta cheese.
It's so good, it hardly needs dressing!
But...if you do want to dress it, I recommend a simple blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar, and a squeeze of lemon.
It's even great the next day!
And....ta da...I am down 6#!!!!
