THE FAT OF THE LAND

An apron full of yesterdays tomato gatherings.
The yellow heirloom tomato is called "Great White', the cherry tomatoes are "sweet 100's, and the rest are heirloom "Brandywine Pink's.
The Brandywine is an Amish tomato dating back to the 1800's, with a distinctive spicy taste.
The cherry tomatoes, for the most part, do not make it into the house. They are for poppin' and eatin'. The "Great White" is best simply with a bit of fleur de sal and fresh cracked pepper. The Brandywine are nearly indescribable with a smidge of gosts cheese, a dribble of olive oil, a teeny bit of homemade pesto, and quite possibly, a couple drops of aged balsamic.
I could, and have, made a complete meal of these.
Who needs chocolate, when there are tomatoes in the garden?

Your "fruits" of labor sound mouth watering. I must agree about the chocolate thing. Since I cut out all sugar a year ago, fresh fruits and vegies are the best. (Shh, don't tell anyone..I actually crave some of them!)

Wonderful! Have you ever tried chopped tomatoes, garlic, onion, basil and a little sugar sauted in a saucepan? YUMMY on fettucini tossed with parmesan cheese! Oh and I am trying to lose weight by eating salads ala Joy's blog and the southbeachdiet! The 'maters and basil pesto look so beautiful!
