CHRISTMAS PAST

Last year, at this time, things 'round here were pretty bleak. Farmboy had not worked in months, and bills were piling up. My stepdad was always very generous at Christmas, so the kids were assured of lots of presents, tho very little would come directly from us.
Several weeks before Christmas, I had gone with a friend to a local antique mall, and spotted a large glitter church.
$40
And it played my absolute favorite Christmas hymn, "O Holy Night".

That was just about $40 more than I had, and even if I DID have it, I wouldn't have bought anything for myself, it would have gone to groceries, or the enormous gas bill.
On Christmas morning, after the kids had opened their presents, my beloved Farmboy comes in from the garage carrying a large bag, with "O Holy Night" playing softly from under it.
My glitter church!
I wept.

Farmboy is now doing "10-20" for robbing a 7-11.
JUST KIDDING!!!!!
He had actually done a few odd jobs in that month before Christmas, and tucked that money aside when he found out that was my hearts desire.

I just love my Farmboy!

Any special gift stand out in YOUR mind?

We had a "broke" year one year. Got gifts at the thrift shop. Actually enjoyed the simplicity of it. And the second year we were married; I was two months pregnant and B. got me a ten speed bike. Every pregnant non-athletic woman's dream!

Your story is sooo much sweeter. I am enjoying getting to know you a bit more. I hope our family's current "holiday season" will bless you as well. Peace.

That's a really great story and a very beautiful church!

I'm moving around in blogland a little slowly these days because there's just so much to do elsewhere. I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by by blog a while back.

Oh Cyn this was such a sweet story! I loved it. :)

A few years back my mom-in-law and I were yard saling in the summer and she saw this old shell-floral arrangement. It was beautiful and over $20.00. (a lot for yard sale prices) She didn't buy it and as soon as we got home she regretted it. Unbeknownst to her I went back to the sale alone and bought it for her. I kept it until Christmas (a good 5 months later) and wrapped it up. The look on her face was priceless when she opened it. She was so thrilled and said that she had always kicked herself for leaving it there. It confirmed the theory that it is always better to give than to receive!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Oh, Cyn, I know I am late to this post, but that is a lovely story. You are blessed in many ways. As I am. My husband is a city boy, but he would do the same, and has.

When I was three years old, my parents had a rough spot financially. We lived with my grandmother. I wanted a certain kind of doll for Christmas but my parents could not afford it. My mother took an older doll I had forgotten about and fixed it up with scraps of material and a few new trinkets. I never knew the differences until years later.
