SLOW & STEADY WINS THE RACE AGAINST WEEDS?

THIS is how the lettuce, carrot/radish/chard/peas beds looked yesterday morning.
Trust me...that is NOT all arugula.
80% of it is weeds.
So....I sat on me bum for hours yesterday and today, scootin' around the gardens pulling weeds.
One at a time.
Without gloves.
Cause you can't pick weeds that are growing right next to the lettuce, with gloves on.
I kid you not....I filled a wheelbarrow with the weeds I picked.

TA DA!

It looks all bare now :(
Tomorrow, 1st thing, I'll be sowing another mess of seeds.
Gotta fill in those bare spots before the weeds find us!

To be repeated bi-weekly till end of growing season.

(See how nicely the peas are doing around the windmill?)

Oh, yeah. Been there, done that!

LOL Not fun. I loooove cultivation and mulch. Still, it's the battle of the weeds all season long.

Great job!

If weeds were only delicious to eat! I guess...then they wouldn't be weeds :D
Here's a Good Gardening Rule:
"When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed
and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant."
Your garden looks marvelous!

Looking good! :) I love gardening but it does it tiresome afterawhile when you a lot of tedious weed pulling! I was just able to start tilling one of my garden spots yesterday....it finally dried out enough! Have a wonderful day! :)

It looks great! Besides not being able to be done with gloves on, I have sure found out that it isn't a job to be trusted to an 11 year old boy either.sigh. Last year mine pulled up all the arugula and some of the bibb lettuce and left only romaine and oak leaf lettuce. Thanks kid. sigh. It will forever, I am sure, be my job alone. Oh well. I am the one who loves my mixed salad greens bed so much, right? I am planting mine on Saturday if all goes well.

At least you have some greens... my garden would be all brown if I actually had one... I probably have the brownest thumb out there. The only thing I can't kill is bamboo which seems to be growing fabulously despite my negligence.

Peas are delicious. Growing any other veggies?
