Out to the gardens yesterday I noticed the potato plants were shriveling up.
Normally shriveled plants are a BAD sign!
But...obviously not with potatoes.
Shriveled plants means there are potatoes down there!
I got my gardening journal and went back to when I planted them, then counted forward, and YES!
It's time to harvest some taters!
The cool thing about harvesting potatoes is, you can dig them up anytime! I don't have to go out and do it all at once!
If I want potatoes for supper, I can go out an hour before and dig some fresh.
Of course, they all must be dug up before the first frost...I think.
But what a luxury...NOT to have to get out there and dig up 60+ plants!
Which should transcend to a lot of potatoes.

So I dug up enough for 2 servings of hash browns, and we had our 1st fruits for breakfast!

If you have a garden, what are YOU harvesting this week?

Last nights dinner was fresh green beans from the garden, raddishes and egg salad with eggs from the chickens. My potatoes came out about 2 weeks ago! They were yummy! :)

Tonight we had sliced tomatoes, green beans and new potatoes, and summer squash...all from our garden! SO GOOD! I love growin' taters! I am leaving them in the ground as long as I can...then will store them! Our onions are ready, too and are lookin' good! So exciting, isn't it??

Right now, when we pick, we get tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, various herbs, winter squash, gourds, melons, pumpkin, cucumbers, corn, pole beans, okra, blackberries and strawberries.

Just when you think planting season has slowed, you are hit with harvesting and canning season! I have so many projects I have no time to complete.

I'm with Maria. I love hash browns. I really love home fries; fried potatoes with and equal amount of added peppers, onions, and bacon. YUMMY!

I want some potato plants, too. Maybe next year in the community gardens here in Madison? Can't say yet...

This year all I have is tomatoes. I've been growing them since April (from seed) and have gotten pretty attached. I uprooted and brought them to WI with me! As of today I've had a handful of cherries and two heirlooms are growing well. Dismal crop, but I'm proud of 'em!

P.S. I've got to send you some photos of those gardens - veggies galore and such variety! Joy was blown away.
