END OF SEASON FRENZY

Pickled peppers

Now the clock is ticking as to how much I can get done before the 1st frost takes away the last breath of summer.
Farmboy and I hit the farmers market on Saturday for tomatoes, green peppers and halapenos.
There was salsa to be made!
Peppers to be pickled!

Salsa!
LOTS of salsa.

In the middle of all the canning today I put together a simple potato leek soup with some crusty homemade bread.
Cause I was sure no one would want just salsa for supper!

Surprise!!!

When I went to let the chickens hang out in the yard about 6pm tonight, I checked their roosting boxes.
Tho I wasn't expecting any eggs till at least the end of the month, I thought I best be checking, just in case.
The surprise is REALLY on me, as I was told all my chicks were Buff Orpington, and they don't lay blue eggs!
So somewhere in the mix is an Aracauna...just not sure which one she is.
And 2 eggs in one day???
Now I am one happy chick!

Your salsa looks really good!!

Buff Orpington are a beautiful tan all over and are dual purpose so a bit more meaty than the Aracaunas. The Aracauna's color can vary a bit, but they are usually a mix of black, tan, and white, a very pretty bird as well!

HTH:)

Good work Cyn! Lots of yummy stuff here! I'm getting a crust of bread to dunk too! I'd love that recipe for leek soup! Chris planted um-teen leeks... Not sure what the harvest will be ... but I guess it's time :)
I made a lot of pesto tonight for the freezer...
Enjoy your thanksgiving fall harvest!

Hello, The picture at the top of your blog is so appropiate for the amount of work you are doing. Love it!....Great job on the Salso. Congratulations on your eggs. I have a Buff Orpington that is a wonderful layer and she recenlty hid a nest in the underbrush and sat on 20 eggs hatching out 16 wonderful biddies for me. Buff Orpington are one of the few that are great Brooder's.

I love canning! Do you have any tips for canning pepperoncini? My daughter has a zillion growing but we can't get them edible when we can them. They just take like peppers in vinegar! Cute blog!

Cyn,

Can I have some of your energy? I have no motivation to can these pears and apples.

Your salsa looks amazing, and so does that soup. I am very much in the mood for cooking again, I've done so little lately.

You should be able to spot that A in with your BOs. Michael wants some. Maybe if I find a chick or two somewhere, but I don't want to order any in. I will have enough when these last chicks begin to lay in a couple of months.

I can't believe how much preserving you have been doing! We are struggling to keep up at the moment. I have always wanted a hen that lays blue or green eggs - we just have brown or white at the moment!

Hi Cyn, You have really been busy, I just smiled when you were telling of finding those first fresh eggs, I know what that feels like. lol
I am so thankful for the things that are now sitting in my pantry, even though it is a lot of hard work, there is nothing that beats opening up a jar of something that you preserved yourself. Thanks for sharing.
