After several weeks going without my daily Secret antiperspirant, I am a convert.
I've taken the plunge and switched over to a more natural alternative.
Just 4 simple ingredients...
1/4 cup aluminum free baking soda
1/4 cup organic cornstarch (or arrowroot powder)
5-6 tablespoons coconut oil (melted)
5-10 drops tea tree oil (I used lavender oil)
Mix all ingredients together and press into an old deodorant container.
OR...do as I did and pour it into a tiny jar with a nice lid.
OR...do as I do and take out a small, pea size scoop and rub it onto your armpit.
Wash your hands afterwards, as it IS coconut OIL.
I do not find my clothes are greasy in the least, and it hasn't stained anything.
And...
best of all...I am not stinky in the least!
Find the tutorial HERE if I didn't explain this well enough!
This reminds me of my memere, who used to buy her deodorant from Avon many years ago. It came in a pretty little jar and she would rub it on her armpit.
What goes around comes around, eh?
xoxo,
Cindy
PS...I am also using coconut oil as an eye make-up remover and skin moisturizer/softener.

Oh, I am going to have to try this!! Might try a bit of the tea tree oil and a bit of another oil...I know the tea tree has antibacterial properties which help with odor, but it isn't the best smelling stuff in the world LOL
Cyn thank you for stopping by and for your nice comments about my house. That was very sweet!
I love my house and have had fun decorating it. I foux painted all my walls myself, the black tables in the family room too. They were just beat up pine tables so I painted them and beat them up some more. My idea of fun!

I keep finding recipes for deodorant and I keep saying I am going to try making it, but never have. I really do want to try it and since I have everything, now is the time! I'll let you know if it works for me! I have been using men's deodorant because that is what works for me!
Thanks for the recipe!
Blessings!
This sounds great! I've been buying some from a soap shop in town that makes it right there. Very similair ingredients - although they use a few more.
It's lovely & also makes your underarms so soft!
Have a great weekend
Renata :)
Cyn, I saw this over at Simple Organic the other day but haven't tried it. I trust your judgement though and if you say it's good, I'm even more motivated to give it a try. Even though I've been using a "natural deodorant" i'd love something even more simple. Thanks for experimenting for us all!
Hi Cindy!
Oh I'll bet with the lavender oil...it must smell lovely!
Yes, I remember that Avon deodorant... I think they still sell it!
I hate rubbing that nasty stuff with chemicals... this sounds so gentle!
Good goin' Cindy!
Love your all natural efforts!
*Enjoyed your recent posts too... G'ma hugging your sweet Trena and those yummy looking beets!
Have a wonderful weekend, Cindy!

I'll have to try this. I've been using Thai salt sticks for the last few years.
Interesting! Thanks!

ooo! eye makeup remover is a great idea!!!
I guess I'll give it a try..thx for sharing...
Hi Cyn,
And once again you have put something on your blog that is just what I have been looking for. I quit using commercial deodorants several years ago, and was using alcohol in a spray bottle . I am so glad to get this recipe from you.
Thank you for all of your helpful tips and recipes. If I could only have ten blogs to read yours would be one of them.
I have been on a blog break and have missed visiting. I can relate to family leaving and going back home, ours left this week and we sure do miss them.
Hugs,
Sue
I'm super happy to hear that it works! I have been using an all natural spray deodorant that works really well and was wondering if this recipe works too:) If you find that the coconut oil is starting to dry your skin, try mixing it with olive oil or switch to olive oil. Coconut oil is great to cook with or add to smoothies for omega 3 boost. Good stuff!
THANK YOU for posting! I always love visiting...
Steve

Wow, I'm going to try that recipe. Thanks so much for sharing it! I'm so happy to find another farmgirl blog! Farmgirl Hugs!
I'm interested....to say the least.
I just found your blog and have been perusing it. I am really impressed! I think this is the easiest deodorant recipe I have seen - which means I might actually have to try it, lol. I have been concerned about the studies that show aluminum in deodorant may contribute to Alzheimer's, as my mother suffered from this disease. But, I am also the first to say that I hate to sweat, and I hate body odor. Which is why I've never had the heart to try any of the "natural" recipes. This one looks easy, though, and if it works as good as you say it does... I just might be impressed! I don't know about rubbing it on with my hands, though. If you put it in a deodorant bottle does it go on like a solid?
so creative- i like the idea for eye makeup remover :-}
i'm putting that recipe in my file. what a great thing to know about. does it keep you from sweating or is it just a deodorant? thanks for the info!
Hey girl! What a great idea! I don't use deodorant. I know - can you believe it!? I don't stink - only when I"m really out in the yard, and then I'm alone - so I stink alone - omg, I can't believe I'm putting this on the internet. Ahem - I'll be making this. Thanks!
You so amaze me.
Praise you in this storm is awesome. CC wrote it for a mother who lost her child to cancer.

I made some from your instructions and put 5 drops of peppermint EO in it and I love it! It works great! Thank you.
Such a great idea. Ive seen salt rocks that also work as deodorant.
What a great idea! I don't like the commercial kind and only use it if I really, really have to. I'm also looking for a natural shampoo recipe so when I have a little more time I'll research your blog more in case you have a recipe for that too.
We (my daughter, father, and myself) have been using this recipe for about a year now ... just love it!
