I am an urban homesteader

Flower beds with potatoes thrown in for good measure

Herb garden

Lettuce, lettuce, and more lettuce.
Oh, and some beans and peas.

Yes, I am an urban homesteader.

We live in a tiny college town in West Michigan.
We have 1.5 acres.
We grow a lot of our own veggies.
We built a hen house and raise chickens for eggs.

OH, your homestead is so pretty :) :) :) S omeday I"ll have land and can have all that same loveliness. Have you ever made a record of how much you've probably saved growing your own fruits/veggies...and having pets that give you eggs? :) :) :) I'm in an apartment, but I happily call myself an apartment homesteader or apartment farmgirl of the heart ;) :) If my budget will allow, I'm going to try growing some rhubarb or zucchini this spring ;) :) Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

Most small towns have so many rules and regulations about what you can and cannot have on your property, you are very fortunate to be able to raise all that you do.I could not live where things are regulated as tight as some communities are. I need space to grow and raise the things I want and need to live my life the way I choose to.

Hi Cindy!
I love following your garden and chicken ventures...
Chris and I really want to raise chickens. We've been saying it for years, but one of these days... I think we'll just do it!
*thanks for encouraging all of us out here*
wishing you a wonderful week*
love,
Maria

I love your gardens - they look beautiful there! I've read about this on another blog -I would have thought the term urban homesteader was quite generic - & I'm sure if the big corporations wanted to use it, they would get around these people anyway. Maybe we should change it to "backyard homesteading" or something like that... well until someone has an issue with that!
Have a wonderful day
Renata:)

The pictures of your garden are beautiful! I think it would be so fun to grow my own veggies and fruits! My grandpa used to have a chicken pen and I have fond memories of going down to feed the chickens. :)
