Margherita Frittata and shame...

Margherita Frittata

I saw this recipe at "For the Love of Cooking" and knew I had to try it.
Pam has never steered me wrong, and I have tried MANY of her recipes.
Find the recipe HERE...
SO good!
And easy-peasy!

Garden Shame

Nope.
These are not luscious grasses planted on purpose.
These are weeds.
And they are everywhere throughout the perennial gardens.
Some not so bad, as I have tried to get out there on a regular basis.
We bit off way more than we could chew.
When we built these beds, I was a much stronger woman.
I was running 3 miles a day, 5 days a week.
I was parking at the farthest end of any parking lot I happened to be in, just to get in some extra walking.

I was strong then.

Today?
Not so much.

Knee replacement surgery last year really took it's toll on me.
I should be getting the other one done, but no more insurance, so no surgery.
Arthritis is knocking at the back door of my hands, so after an hour in the gardens I am pretty much done for the day.

I am thinking that when the weather cools down later in the week I might tear out the few perennials I can spot, and just plow the whole thing under.

On second thought maybe I'll just try to pass the weeds off as luscious grasses.

From a distance you can hardly tell the difference!

In His grace,
Cindy

We're in the same boat. My old strawberry patch is overgrown and I didn't have your courage to post it :-). I only cleared enough space to plant the rhubarb and black currant bush, figuring I'll get to it sometime later...or not!

I know that it's hard when our bodies fail us. When I did my planting this year, I had to bend over like a giraffe, with my legs spread wide, because of arthritis in my knees. I can't bend them to crouch. It wasn't a pretty sight and it just about did me in!

I say, don't sweat the small stuff. Those grasses remind me of sea grass. It has its own beauty :-)

It DOES look like expensive fancy grass! ha! This morning when I was working my flower beds I had this thought 'I've created a monster'. Good luck hon - I know that overwhelmed feeling all too well. xo

If I didn't know better I'd think you were posting a picture of my part of my garden. Oh how I let it get away from me last summer and now it is mid thigh. I tried pulling part of it today on my hands and knees because I can no longer stand to do such things anymore but alas, I ran out of steam. I know just where you are coming from.

I, on the other hand, can do everything I always could do. It just takes me weeks and weeks longer to do it. And Daniel has to help.
sigh.

What is it with knees and aging?? I also have/had a nice perennial garden, but for the first time, my knees are failing me. Thought I'd be creative and sit on a bucket to garden.....third time I moved the bucket and went to sit down.....I missed!! I will work at it slowly and enjoy what gifts the garden sends up. Hang in there.

I understand completely! As we get older, we have to pick our battles.

Sounds like you need my three teenagers to give you a hand!

I think we are all in the same boat! I have two veggie gardens and several flower beds and a couple of acres of grass to mow. I just can't keep up or stand up after a couple of hours of working on them! (herniated discs and our friend Arther Itis!)Oh, to be able to afford a gardener!

Cyn,
Try some oil of oregano on your hands when you're done working in the garden. Better yet, after annointing them with OOO (oil of oregano) slip them into a gallon ziplock bag and top with a heating pad for great temporary relief.
Your frittata looks Yumm.
Seize the day!

So sorry you're having so much pain. Praying you'll be able to get that knee replacement surgery done soon! I hope you know of some other people garden whom you can glean from. We did that for years. To everything there is a season! Bless you, Jackie

We're in the same boat. I hurt my back last year and the Dr. said no more bending over to garden. It drives me nutty seeing my once beautiful flower beds go to weeds. I'm trying hard to accept this change in my life and be thankful for what I can still do. I'll be praying for you. It does look like it could be ornamental grass though.

Hey Cindy...

I have some spots in the garden that are lush with weeds! They grow best in this ole garden of mine.

Could I be so bold and ask where your CSA is located? You can email me at rndevault@charter.net

Love clothes dried on the line!

Take care
