Things being what they are, I have not spent any money on frivolous items in the past, say....2 years!
Until....my dear friend Joy came to visit just 4 days after moving into our rental house.
We headed straight to Eastown into a sweet shop called "Blue Door Antiques and Elements" where I found this "frivolous necessity".
Winter was just settling in for the long haul, and I craved a bit of greenery.

I had lived "without it" for so long,
and had spent no time lookin' around.

And that day this little myrtle topiary "came to me".
For only $14 I was able to bring her home.
She sits on my not-so-sunny kitchen windowsill and brings me joy

single
day.

Don't things mean so much when you go without and finally can get something just for fun? Pretty green touch!
Oh I SO get you sister. I've been living pretty bare bones about here as well. I splurged on something that I'm almost too embarrassed to tell - but I'll blog about it - it was my birthday present, so there. I'd say that $14 was well spent. If you accrue the cost of it over how much joy it's going to bring you, it's probably barely a couple of pennies a day! Love it!

I remember in the very early and very poor years of our marriage, I would often sacrifice a treat of the food kind to buy a plant.I just need plants and animals thriving right along with the family, and I know having them around helps us thrive.
I like the song and had never taken the time to read the words.

It is lovely & although we have plenty of green over winter, it's always nice to have some inside :)

The Bible has wonderful things to say about the myrtle tree and in the northeast, precious things are made from myrtle wood. I bought Dave a pen made from myrtle; it brings me joy to use it.
