French Press
I am not a coffee connoisseur by any means.
Truth be told, I enjoy one mug full every morning and that 's just about it for me.
Anything more gives me the jitters and an icky stomach.
And...I am not into those uber strong coffees, either!
My go to has been Folger's "Breakfast Blend"...
aka "Breakfast Blah" by hubby.
He likes his STRONG....
So I make mine first in our Bunn coffee pot, then when he gets up he just adds his dark roast grounds to what's in there from me and gets himself a nice big cup of stuff you could stand a spoon in.
Cold Brew in my french press
But lately my coffee has been sort of...nasty tasting.
Bitter.
Harsh.
In other words, I was choking it down in the morning.
After asking around Facebook, I had a couple of friends recommend cold brewed coffee.
Typically meant for iced coffee, it can also be used for a hot cup.
Easy peasy is the name of the game, and this fits the bill.
You do not even need a french press, but since I have one, I am using it.
Simply take 1 cup of coffee grounds
(I splurged and got some fresh coffee beans at the grocers this week)
and place them in your french press.
Add 2 cups of spring water.
(I used our well water)
Let sit for 10 minutes.
Stir briefly.
Cover with plastic wrap for 12 - 24 hours.
I did 12...
Remove plastic and press grounds.
You should have about 1 1/2 cups of coffee concentrate.
Filtered concentrate
Since there is still a bit of sediment in the concentrate I poured it through a strainer lined with a coffee filter.
See all the ick on it?
I then put 1/3 cup of the concentrate in my mug and added water to nearly full.
Added some cream and the tiniest pinch of sea salt and heated it all up in a pot on the stove.
The verdict?
The BEST cup of coffee I have had in a long time.
Not bitter.
No funky cigarette butt taste in my mouth.
Just a nice, smooth cup of coffee.
Good to the last drop.
Try it for yourself and see if you don't love it, too!
In Christ alone,
Cindy
PS...Keep the concentrate in a small jar in the fridge....you can also make a larger batch of this...the sources I have say it is good for a week or more

LOL @ "funky cigarette butt taste"!!!
So true sometimes!!!
Love me some coffee...but not too strong.
THis morning, jamaican me crazy flavor.
My hairdresser gave it to me. She doesn't drink it.
Oh well.
I love it!
Yum! I'm a coffee fanatic and HATE the coffee butt aftertaste of bad coffee. It's almost enough to turn me into a tea drinker! ;)
I'll definitely be trying this!
How cool is that? I've never heard of cold pressing coffee before...very interesting! I'm glad you found the way to enjoy a perfect cup! :)
Blessings,
Camille
I'll have to try that sometime so that I can make some iced coffee! Thanks!
I only do foo foo coffee, LOL, but my hubby likes coffee like your hubby does, with a spoon in it!
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. I passed your comment on to my sis and we both though, "Wow"! It has taken courage from the Spirit to talk about it, and I pray God will use it for His glory.
I continue to pray for you situation as well. It is nice to see you taking enjoyment in the little things off life like - coffee!! :)
Hugs, Jackie
Cold brewed coffee is kind to my stomach; found a pot at Big Lots that makes it easy to fix. Like you, I fix a lot, keep it in the fridge and heat it in the microwave. I've never added a pinch of salt though; might have to try that and thanks.
Also, a skim milk frother makes a cup of coffee really sweet...sprinkle with cinnammon...is that spelled correctly? I think not. drats.
I am going to try this. I don't drink coffee at all, but I love Frappe's. This may be the way I can drink it!
cool! i've never saw this before!!! This is great! I just need a french press!! haha...I love my coffee in the morning!!! :D
I did this for years and only stopped because I ended up packing everything away to live in a camper for the summer--- 6 years ago! I just found the press again, and it's wonderful! Yes, I agree, less bitter. I love my morning coffee, even an evening cup!
