A CHICK CHICK HERE, AND A CHICK CHICK THERE...

I've been letting the girls out in the early evening, for a couple of hours. They forage around in the yard, get startled, race back to the safety of the hen house, then venture out again! Last evening, we had a bit of a rain shower start after they had been out for a while....they ran like crazy to safety, then as soon as the rain stopped, right back out.

Here is Ruby, peering between the Dutch couple.

Albie and ?, neck and neck.

I swear, these girls are more fun than TV. (unless you're comparing them to "The Office"....then it's a toss-up!)

Hi farmgirlcyn! Love the chicken photos and your blog...have to ask this... your profile says you are married 34 years old... are you 34 or married 34 years? I found the Jeez in 1975! Thanks for the comment on my blog! Ina is so REAL and her recipes are so wonderful! Love her!

Hi again, Farmgirlcyn!

Just wanted to give you an fyi that Kiwi has left you another good suggestion in the comments under "Ongoing Story of New Chickens" post at my blog!

(Hmm... I feel a little like a messenger service -- but all for a good cause! ;-) )

HA! Thanks Wildside! After reading about all the pecking I thought I'd better relay the cardboard box method myself.
Here it is for anyone interested in keeping chooks from settling in nest boxes for the night.

"Farmgirlcyn...The other option to keep them out of the nest boxes is to place a cardboard box in there in the late afternoon. If the nest box is filled up with the box they will have to look elsewhere for the night....hopefully the perch!

Your chicks are young yet, but they will soon get into the habit of choosing the perch. Take the box out when they've all gone to bed... so that the nest boxes are vacant for the early morning layers".
