BLUE EGG SPOTTED!

FINALLY!
One of our 2 Aracauna hens has laid us an egg!
I fell in love with the idea of blue/green eggs after my friend, homemakerang,
showed me her pretty "Easter" eggs!
When we got our chickens in July, there were 3 out of the 10 that were the Aracaunas, and one of them turned out to be a rooster!
So, our hope for the pretty eggs was up to the two remaining Aracaunas. The 7 Isa Browns began laying 2 weeks ago, but the Aracaunas have a delayed puberty, so....today was our first!
Wouldn't it be lovely to bless someone with a dozen eggs, and have one out of the 12 be a beautiful blue egg???

How pretty! I miss having auracanas..the eggs are so pretty. All my hens are banties and I get a range from white to a pretty terra cotta color..I wish I had at least a couple who laid those beauties!!

Hmm... Yes... Something so heart-rendering appealling about a blue egg. So much so I was tempted
to get a few of those magic hens myself. But because of our townie location with neighbors closeby all around went with quieter breeds. So glad I did! So far the girls are amazingly mum and no one would guess I have so many (until they start crowing about laying!). But miss the opportunity for blue eggs.

Hi. I got here via the "yellow brick road" from Wildside's blog. Nice to meet you all.

I also get green to blue eggs. There are 2 breeds of chickens that give these "Easter eggs", Auracana like you have, and Americana like I have. Well, mine are an Americana-Sex Link cross apparently. I bought them this spring at the local auction and on the box it said they were hatched March 10 and are this breed cross. There were 6 in the box and as they grew up I found there were 3 females and 3 males. I really like these birds, they are cool to look at and have nice "chickenalities" too. (BTW Wildside, I don't find them any noisier than the other chooks).

I have had Bantams for some time now (I forget what year I got Rooster Cogburn, my first chook as an adult), and this spring I also got (at the auction of course) some big brown hens who's breed I don't know. The note on the box said they're 2 years old, but that's all it said. They've been giving me large, extra large and jumbo sized brown eggs. I am thinking about getting rid of these hens though as the shells on their eggs are very thin. When I got them they were worse than they are now, but still they're not good so I get a lot of cracked and broken eggs. The Bantam and Americana-Sex Link eggs have very thick shells that are rarely if ever cracked. The green eggs sometimes look brownish green... yuck. I think whatever the Sex Link chicken is, it must lay brown eggs.

As well as giving eggs to my mom and one sister, I also sell them at my church and feed a lot of them to my dog... anything that's cracked or "questionable" goes to Reba who loves them on her dog food. And of course I eat them too, lol.

It is really cool having green and blue eggs. I want to get more Americana hens, or possibly Auracana, in the spring.

I decorate eggs at Easter (Ukrainian pysanky), and I can appreciate a blue egg. It is absolutely gorgeous! Good for you!!
