FIRST FRUITS

ROASTED ASPARAGUS!

OK...they are not Michigans first fruits, but...I'm thinkin' they are California's first fruits!
I just cut them in half, place them in a shallow cookie sheet, toss with a bit of extra virgin olive oil, sea salt and fresh ground pepper, and roast till tender but still a wee bit crunchy.
These only took maybe 20 minutes as they were skinny stalks.

Accompanying the asparagus was teriyaki marinated chicken breasts grilled over mesquite coals. (in the garage, as it's still too cold to have the grill out in the wind!)
Can anybody say "light and healthy"?

Asparagus is the essence of spring, isn't it? I do it just like you and we also just love to use mesquite coals to barbeque. You just can't beat the aroma of the coals and the marinated chicken.

My mouth is positively watering.

Lately I have been buying baby broccoli. It is just scrumptious. It is about the same length and diameter as the asparagus and can be interchanged in any recipe and it is also perfect raw.

We had California Strawberries on our Waffles yesterday. Us Canadians just love California produce in the middle of winter.

mmmm...love fresh asparagus drizzled with olive oil, sprinkling of gray sea salt and grated Parmesan Regianno cheese and roasted in the oven for a few minutes...then to accompany some crostini with sliced ham and fontina cheese and a spread of dijon mustard and mayonaise broiled to perfection and a light but sweet German May (Mai) wine. Heaven!

Oh yummy yummy in my tummy I love roasted fresh asparagus and teriyaki chicken!! It is 5:30 a.m. and I could dig into some of that right here and now...
I'll tell ya what I have got to be cooking...I have like 12 quarts of cherries in the freezer and there will be no room for whats coming in May if I don't get them out and use them! You wanna come pick and pit?

That chicken looks delicious! I know what I'm making for dinner tonight. I'm so excited that spring is here and I can start the BBQ up again.

I think asparagus is a vegetable...at least Junior Asparagus seems to think so.

Dinner looks good...what time should I be there?

Ha! My menu is very much like yours, Cyn.

Asparagus and salads. Cooked a whole chicken again on Sunday.

Our grill is cleaned up and ready to go....but we just got another week of winter so everything came to a screeching halt. (no garage)
I had 'first asparagus' this week, too. Isn't spring wonderful (or, it will be when it comes back)!
