CYN'S...BELIEVE IT OR NOT

Look familiar?
Especially to those of us over 50!
Remember when our moms would rub our chests with the greasy, but oh so soothing, Vicks VapoRub?
Seems that mom was not too far off after all.
Scientists in Canada have found that greasing up the bottoms of your feet with the Vicks and then covering with a warm pair of socks will stop that awful night time coughing.
You read me right!
The scientists at the Canadian Research Council were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines as compared to alternative therapies like accupressure.
Cyn was about to do her own private investigation.
So, after taking a Nyquil capsule last night, I was sleeping before 11pm. By 5am, said Nyquil was wore off, and I was coughing almost continuously for perhaps 15 minutes.
Enough was enough.
Out came the Vicks.
Greased up the soles of my feet. (a bit on my chest also, for good measure)
Toasty warm socks.
And blissful sleep for another 3 hours.
Try it for yourself!

I don't know how they discovered this, but my cousins would put Vicks on their kids if they bumped their heads and had a goose egg. The doctor said it didn't help but they swore it took the swelling down. I'll have to try this when my sore throat and runny nose turn into a cough!

Suddenly I've been transported back to my childhood. My mom was always rubbing vicks on me because of my bronchitis. And then she would put it in my humidifier too in that little tray.

I guess it's time to break out the good old remedies and feel better!

Love,
Julie

I had only just heard that on Wednesday. Imagine that.

What will those Canadians think up next? Smiling.

I hope you get better super soon.

Ah Vicks is soooo soothing! I use it on my kids whenever they have a cough and it works like a dream. Must try the soles of the feet thing sometime. A few drops of lemon juice in water is also meant to help witha cold by boosting your vitamin C levels!

Hope your coughing stops soon!

I love that stuff..I don't know if it is the memories are what. We always put in a metal coffee can with water...warm on stove and put a towel over your head and breath in. Really helps open you up.hope you are well soon.

Wow!! I had never heard of it being rubbed on feet! Yes, I've had my share on my chest and neck though. I use to work with a girl that ate it for her sore throat and she said it really helped! It probably did but I've never been brave enough to try that!

Ah ha! Vindication! I love this stuff, but my husband Joe calls it my Voodoo medicine!

Vicks is a winter staple in both our upstairs and downstairs medicine chests.
