WHISKEY...GOOD FOR WHAT AILS YA!

Yesterday a nasty tickle in my throat began bothering me and making me cough.
After rubbing Vicks Vapo-Rub(see previous post from Nov. maybe?) on the bottoms of my feet, and encasing them in toasty, thick socks, I managed to get a decent nights sleep.
This morning, however the tickle and cough has attacked with a vengeance.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Now I had to call in reinforcements.
A shot of good whiskey. (give or take a shot)
A teaspoon or so of honey
A tiny squeeze of lemon juice
And warm it all up in the microwave.
Not so tasty, but it is pretty much halting the cough....
and after drinking this down, even if I DID cough a bit, I don't really care!
So, now it is off for a bitty nap. (tho it is not even noon yet!)

How do YOU manage when you get attacked by sickness?

So sorry you're not feeling well. I do the honey and lemon without the wiskey. Just read that honey actually works better that cough syrup. I knew that! My Grandpa taught me! Hope you're feeling better after your nap.

Just popping in for a read and here is my sure fire fix...tickle in your throat? scratchy throat? sore throat? Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar(the good health food store variety) with 'floaties' in it, to 4 or 5 parts water (the stronger you can take it - the better) Take a sip of the mixture and gargle, counting to 30 slowly while you gargle, spit it out and repeat 3 times. Do this every half hour - for at least a day or the evening, If you do this as soon as you feel something coming on I guarantee it will be gone by the next day. For those of you who do not like the taste of apple cider vinegar....I have no substitutions...nothing else works as well!

This is nuts I was just talking about my dads home made cough syrup and then see your blog. when I was alittle girl all my life my dad kept his Old Charter bottle made with peppermint, lemon, honey and whiskey on the head of his bed. As a young girl i found it and loved the taste. So each winter I make up a bottle and yes it works. I was telling my clients hubby and I have been sick and this is the first time in years I didnt make mine...now I wish I had. I guess it's not to lae =) Hope you feel better soon.

Curl up with a cat is always a satisfying remedy...and cheap to boot!

Hope you are feeling better. I'd come and help you out with the snuggle part, but you seem to have your own kitties anyway. Tell them they are welcome to drop by and visit Tigs on his own blog-TiggieFOC

Nothing like a little hot toddy to make you feel better! If I have a sore throat gargling with warm salt water helps.

Hope you feel better soon. A nap is always good too!!

OK - I never am ill for more than 48 hours. Here is my secret...
Overdosing on the following:

Zinc

Echinacia (liquid in water)

Vitamin C (chewable 500 mgs a piece, I take about 2000 a day)

Garlic (which makes me barf so I usually chop some up and broil it in olive oil and throw it on a salad)

I have been doing this for years. I also alternate two weeks on and two weeks off of liquid Echihacia in the cold and flu season. When I say O.D. I usually double or triple what the bottle says to take for a short period of time.

PS - Liquid Grapefruit Seed Extract is a miracle worker too. Take it all the time.

That is exactly what my mom used to take for a cold..haha
I hope you feel much better soon.
I am a hot lemon juice and honey gal...just hot water, maybe 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice and about a tablespoon of honey.
I bought some vinegar stuff called dragon tonic awhile back and if I feel real bad I take a swig of that..I feel so much better I never need a secon dose...ugh!! It is awful tasting stuff!

Add a bit of hot tea to that mix and sip slowly... and remember, it's the sleep that's the most important!
