Inspiration came by way of Parisienne Farmgirl, Ang, last week, as she re-vamped her pantry area.
Hmmm, I thought.
What could I do to mix things up around here without it costing me anything?
First off, I found the black metal CD stand in the garage.
Took the little rubber feet off'en it.
Had Farmboy figure out how to get it on the wall and able to hold some hefty grains, legumes and spices w/o tumbling down.
(that's what studs are for...Hey get your mind out of the gutter. I wasn't talkin' about Farmboy the Stud, but the studs in the wall!!!)
Back to the garage where I hunted down the 3 cases of old, glass topped Ball canning jars purchased at an estate sale a couple years back for a couple bucks a case.
Cleaned them up.
Filled them with organic red lentils, yellow split peas, coarse ground black pepper, dried chilis, and on and on.
Used some shipping labels to write down the contents.
The end result is a space on the wall getting filled up with stuff I use on a regular basis.
The cupboards where this stuff USED to hang out is much less crowded, and therefore at least APPEARS to look neater and cleaner.
And I got to spend a few hours doing what I love to do most...
putzing around my kitchen!

WOW! That looks really great. Now aren't you so glad you kep that old rack! Sometimes that junk waiting for us to be sold at a garage sale comes in really handy! I walked by my gallon jars that I once made pickles in (when my daughter was still home, she ate pickles like crazy!) and I wondered what I could use them for and now I'm thinking RICE CORNMEAL DRIED BEANS BREAD FLOUR etc....
Oh there's inspiration everywhere. I am always inspired by great magazine shoots....even if it's one grand idea....it always leads to more.
Since we both know Mary, I always think, what would Mary do?
Everytime WE talk I'm inspired.
My mind is awhirl these days as spring encroaches.
NOW seeing your pantry and watching Ang sooooo excited at the thrift shop the other day, I better get hustling with my pantry...and the black bookshelves, the two empty guestrooms, the bathroom, and the livingroom turned dining room....after all Mary is coming over Thursday for coffee.
Love this idea- wish I had the space! I've got the jars... and they're blue, too. A perfect match for my someday kitchen.

Also, the Nanette Lepore spring line with all of its COLOR and the inspiration to look pretty (after a LONG winter of being drab). We drove past Macy's in Chicago on Saturday and they had the same idea- the return of color.
I love spring for the big 'ol Vogue issue, too: 700 pages or so of eye candy. It actually satiates me with ideas for the whole year!
Looking good- I am so in love with this look Im gonna put everything I own in a ball jar if I don't get a handle on myself.

I recently reorganized my pantry too. I moved some of the most used items to a hutch in the dining room (like the staples, beans, rice, etc) It really helps a lot to see what you have & not be so crowded.

Hi Cyn! I found 'em! I found 'em! Turns out that the grocery store closest to home had them, I went all over. In the past I've looked at all the department stores. Today I went to several grocery stores, they only had wooden ones, but on the way back home I stopped at our local SPARTAN store and found them...they're made by DIAMOND...the same folks who make the matches. They come in a pack of 25 for about 2.75...but they last a long time. The come in an assortment of teal, blue & white. If I was a good girl, I would bring them in from outside each day, but I don't, I may have to start. I asked the store manager to get me ten more packs so I'm not on another hunt like this again. Now my new clothespin bag is well stocked!

Love it! It looks fantastic! :) Great job. :) I have gone through my pantry at least twice this winter, but need to do it again... stuff gets put on the top shelf that I can't see and then I don't remember what's up there...
