Yeasty Saturday...

Bagels!

My 1st attempt at homemade bagels and they were delish!
Find the Easy Peasy recipe HERE...

100% whole wheat bread

Another simple recipe, kneaded entirely by my Kitchen Aid stand mixer.
It is the perfect sandwich style bread...not crusty but tender through and through.
One for the counter and one for the freezer.

Bowl of blemished lemons

Can't help it.
I must have a mess of lemons in the house.
Costco has them so much cheaper by the humongous bag, that even if I end up wasting a couple, I still got a great deal!

I have spent much of the day in the kitchen with the oven fired up.
A perfect bread baking day...cool temps outside with nothing but time on my hands.
We will end it with another yeasty wonder...homemade pizza.
I am trying a couple different versions tonight.
One is a simple pizza dough baked in my 10" cast iron skillet.
The other is a thin crust pizza with a small amount of toppings.
You have to be careful with those thin crust pizzas...
too much on the top and you end up with a soggy mess.
Still tasty, but not the crunch I am looking for!

What have YOU been doin' today?

xoxo,
Cindy

Your breads look wonderful and comforting ~
Lemons are the best,

I love homemade bagels! Your bread and bagels look so good. Today my day was spent getting my website setup and I'm still not done. My daughter did bake us a yellow cake from scratch today and frosted it so pretty. Have a good night Rebekah

Hi Cindy,
Let's see, I've been listening to Dave Ramsey's radio show onli ne..an archived show from the previous week. Plus I'm reading his book "Financiao Peace University - Revisited". I also made homemade soft dough pretzel rolls and posted a link on my blog about that. I've also been trying to get caught up on blogs today, too!! Oh, I do love bagels!!! They're popular where I live.. The ones that you made look absolutely delicous. So does that sandwich bread!!! isn 't it nice to make stuff like this at home? :) :) Have a great weekend, Cindy. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

Cindy,
I am so terrible. It's been so long since I have been over here!!!!!

I am addicted to making Honey Wheat, I hope to post the recipe soon.

As far as your Money Maker - sounds like you're shakin' it! I LOVE those ideas! How are they coming along? Why don't you get a friend with a video camera and "attack" people while they are in the checkout line. Wonder if you could find someone to edit the footage a bit, make it look like a little TLC show and put it on the CSA's website.
Maybe TLC would pick you up.

I have fantasies of chastising people for what is in their shopping carts. You could make up some processed food sized boxes that are papered over and say, "Cancer" "Heart Disease" and just start taking stuff out of their cart and exchanging it with those boxes to get their attention.

Sorry, getting carried away but the whole thing would be hilarious.

Girl! This was a perfect post. I've been hankering to make some bagels. I tried it once or twice, and mine came out dense. I want them lighter - like at Panera Bread! I made deep dish homemade pizza last night - and it was fab - the only thing was, that I wished I had a bigger pan, and duh! I didn't even THINK of using my cast iron skillet. I think I'm going to do a video blog series of baking with yeast - everyone seems so afraid of it!

Yummy! You were one productive lady on Saturday Cindy! I cut one boy's hair and did a bit of this and that...not too much. I'm sure it smelled awfully yummy in your home with all that good bread bakin'. I *love* lemons too. :)

Have a wonderful week!
Blessings,
Camille

THank you, and I will keep in touch. I think of you all the time...even talk to C about "FarmgirlCyn showed me how to make this" or"FarmgirlCyn and her chickens..I could do that!" C just smiles and says "my blogging buddy". You are thought of often. Keep us posted on what you decide about your change.

Hugs to you,
Dee

PS We are undergoing major bathroom renovation. Did you know that your dust can get dust on top of that? :-)

Ooooo...your bagels look lovely. That's one thing I haven't tackled yet. I ordered a sourdough starter yesterday, so I'll be experimenting with that soon. I'm been trying to cut back on gluten, but I'm just not ready to quit cold turkey.

I hope you're warm and cozy. We've got a blizzard warning here....brrrrr.....

Today I will definitely be baking bread. Funny how once you get used to your own yummy bread it is hard to buy bread from the store anymore. And, besides...it even saves on packaging...and anything I can do to get away from packaging is a good thing. Well it is to me.

I love baking and doing my breads falls into that category... hate to think of it as a chore.. or habit... I think I will call my bread making a tradition. I've only learned how in the past few years... and I love it.
