50 IS THE NEW 35!

My sis-in-law recently told me that 50 is the new 35. I believe I can say "amen" to that! Since turning 50 almost 3 years ago, I have: lost 40#, took up running as my new form of "recreation",ran 2 separate 5k races, learned how to knit, re-taught myself how to sew, built a 6ft retaining wall, rototilled a small yard, planted numerous trees, shrubs, bushes, etc., and am about to venture into "chicken farming". This weekend was my first foray into "zippers". I made 2 skirts, each requiring a 7 inch zipper. Now, for those of you who install zippers on a regular basis, you might think this is nothing to brag about. HAH! Have you SEEN the instructions for putting in a zipper??? BUT...those who know me best, know I do not give up easily! (plus the fact that last weekend at savvycityfarmer.blogspot.com, I saw firsthand what a 21 year old chickieboom could do WITHOUT a pattern!) NOTHING was going to stop me. (and I knew that if I ran into any unsolvable sewing dilemma, the kind folks at Joanne Fabrics would be happy to help me out...the ladies who work at these places always remind me of the female version of Mr. Rogers...soft spoken, kind, helpful, WANT to be my neighbor...know what I mean?) And here you see the finished products...not too clear of a photo...my bathroom is not condusive to picture perfect photos, plus the fact that I don't want you to look TOO close, if you know what I mean!!!

This one here is a beautiful robins egg blue...can't wait to wear it with a chocolate brown top. Now I have to go shopping for said top!

ALSO...PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE SIZING ON PATTERNS. THEY ARE A LIE FROM THE PIT OF HELL! GO ONLY BY YOUR ACTUAL DIMENSIONS, BUT PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME I WEAR A SIZE 14/16 WHEN I KNOW FOR A FACT I DO NOT!!! SIMPLICITY...DO YOU READ ME! AND ANOTHER THING...THE ONE-HOUR EASY PATTERNS ARE NOT ONE HOUR, AND ARE NOT THAT EASY!!!
