the end is here...farewell till may

i did THIS.......

to make some of these.....

cause i knew THIS.....

was on it's way.

we had our 1st fairly hard frost yesterday, and, after hearing the weather report the evening before, i knew it would be my last chance for something bright and fresh from my gardens.
armed with my scissors, i headed out at dusk to gather a few bits of summer, put them in tiny vessels, and placed them around the house.

today i am in mourning....
but...
to everything there is a season...
and, God willin' and the crick don't rise....
spring will be here again.

PS....there has been true victory at the sewing machine this weekend, and i will have some photos up soon for "show and tell"!!!

all i can say is....there might be buttonholes in my future!!!

and a big THANKS to all who left encouraging notes on my previous post....it truly does help, knowing i am not the only "doofus" out there!!!

I'm just trying to learn buttonholes as well. I have two vests that need them.

Today I'm going to try sleeves. I'll be posting pics too. :o)

I'm so sorry to see the season go as well. We were so busy working in it, that we didn't have a lot of time to just bask in it and enjoy. How are your knees? Do you have that surgery scheduled for January?

It's hard to walk away from the garden when the seasons change. We haven't had a frost yet, but as cold as it is, we can expect one soon. Best thing now is to enjoy gardening books and make our wish list for next year.

Yeah, it feels like we again, skipped a season. It has been feeling like early Winter around SE Ohio. I don't even want to think about what all I still need to get done around here before Winter...or at least snow.

As for sewing... I am reteaching myself. I dug out my G'ma-in-law's old singer..and I have one to bring home from Mom's. I have been ordering patterns. I hope to make some clothes, presents...and add to our farm products. So I might be talking to you about tips and pointers. Button holes are far off in my future! :0)

Oh, Cyn...From your headline, I thought YOU were leaving until May and I have to say, I'm so relieved that you aren't! It's always sad to say goodbye to the "green season" when we know we're in for a good six months of gray, coldness, isn't it!?
Your flowers are so pretty!
XOXO

Cyn,
I had such a hard time too about the seasons changing! But your blooms are so beautiful and I bet your house smells wonderful!

Lovely flowers! We just took down 'the summer tent' yesterday and I was sad to see it go. The temp has dropped quite a bit and I will have to dig my wool coat out of storage in the basement. The chickens are huddled together in the coop and our first frost is surely on it's way.

Good for you with the button holes, next comes zippers - not nearly as terrifying as you'd think. I have been sewing since I was about 12 and I still keep a seam ripper at the ready (one next to the machine, one in the desk drawer and another on standby).

Can't wait to see what you have been up to!

I shed a tear as I gazed out my kitchen window ...my stunning window box with its bigger than life potato vine and bacopa ....gone bye, bye ...
south for the winter.

another summer gone like a vapor ...I WILL spend some time in your pool next year if the lord is willin' and the creek don't rise.

Your view is absolutely lovely from your front porch! I woke up yesterday wondering if my basil plant was still alive, and sadly, when I got outside it was as brown as brown can be! :(
Blessings~

Looking forward to the pics! It's gone cold here, but nowhere near frost. More damp in your bones stuff!

I'm so with you...sadness in autumn...even with the beauty of fall, I can't help the melancholy. At least you have a lovely posy :)

Here is something I figured out after about 40 years of sewing: always start with the needle down. You will save yourself many a tear/tear!!

XOXO

Hi Cyn!
I thought the same thing as Old Centennial Farmhouse
... phew...

Just the other day, I almost cut the rest of my zinnias to bring in for bouquets... but I left a few thinking they were hardy... nope... too much frost on them I guess.
Your cut flowers in the first two photos are lovely!
Enjoy the fruits of your labor...
Fall and winter make me so appreciative of spring and summer~
time to cuddle up and cozy down!
